Pirate Pantry - No Pirate Left Hungry

We recognize the need to establish an on-site food pantry and launch a weekend food assistance program for our little pirates.   Through a discreet 'backpack buddy' system, students will receive bags of nutritious shelf-stable foods each Friday that require little to no preparation at home.

We hope to expand this to provide larger food kits for Thanksgiving break and Christmas break to ensure students are fed even when school meals are unavailable.

Pantry items will include proteins, grains, fruits, and snacks that are both appealing to students and nutrionally valuable.

The pantry will be stocked through a combination of grant funds, community donations, local churches, businesses, and ongoing volunteer support.

Reusable backpacks will help maintain student dignity and privacy.  This program is intended to help feed both the body and soul of the student.

Poverty is the worst form of violence.”

“If we can conquer space, we can conquer childhood hunger.”

“I went to bed hungry many nights as a child. It was a Dream that dressed me up when I was ragged, and it was a Dream that filled me up when I was hungry. Now it’s my Dream to see that no child in this world ever goes hungry, certainly not here in America, the most bountiful country in the world. We can do better…we must!”
— Dolly Parton

Statement of Need:
Food insecurity is a persistent challenge for our students and their families. Many children rely on school meals as their primary source of nutrition. Once the school day ends — especially on weekends and extended breaks — students may go without food. The school’s rural location further compounds this issue, as access to affordable groceries and transportation is limited. A school-based food pantry and backpack program would directly address this gap and provide consistent, dependable nourishment for students in need.
